About Us

The Southern Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association was started over 20 years ago by three founding charter organizations: Bowie Lacrosse Club, Calvert Lacrosse Club and Prince Georges Lacrosse Club.   Our organization has grown dramatically over the years and we now provide an outstanding lacrosse experience for over 1800 young men between the ages of 7 and 15 years old spanning five Counties in the great state of Maryland.

We currently have two Conferences, the CHESAPEAKE and the POTOMAC conferences.  Each conference provides our teams with similar skill levels with which to compete.  Each conference has its own end-of-season tournament in which teams compete for a SMYLA Championship Title.

The SMYLA championship tournament is held the weekend before Memorial Day.  Each team is seeded in the tournament according to their overall season record.  The tournament is held at the beautiful Bowie Lacrosse Complex (also known as Mitchellville Fields) with the championship games being played on the state-of-the-art synthetic turf field in Bowie's beautiful Allan's Pond Park. This tournament attracts thousands of lacrosse enthusiasts throughout the entire weekend.  While our U9 Bantams and U7 Scoopers don't compete for an end of season title, they do play in a round-robin style tournament during SMYLA Tournament Weekend.

Our league is headed by U.S. Lacrosse Hall-of-Fame inductee Lenny Casalino.

We are always looking to expand.  If your club is interested in joining SMYLA or you have any questions regarding the Southern Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association please feel free to contact us at president@smyla.org.
